Darcie Morton (biathlon) will create a slice of history later today when she competes in the women’s 15km individual, joining her father Cameron Morton who represented Australia in the same sport 20 years ago in Torino. They are the first father and daughter duo to both represent Australia at the Winter Olympics, although Peter Cain represented Australia in figure skating at Lake Placid in 1980 and his daughter Ashley Cain competed for the USA in Beijing four years ago. Darcie, who is coached by older brother Damon, excelled in table tennis as a junior, representing Australia on several occasions at Oceania and World Cadet Championships.
Darcie and her father are the fourth second-generation duo to represent Australia at the Winter Olympics.
Note: There has been no occurrence of father-son both representing Australia at the Winter Olympics. However, Steve Hewitt was a member of the curling team that competed at Albertville in 1992 when it was a demonstration sport and his son Dean Hewitt competed in curling at Beijing in 2022.
