Over the last four years, I have appeared as a guest on The Shannon Rollason Podcast with host Robby Cox and elite coach Shannon Rollason talking about aspects of competitive swimming’s 130-year history in Australia, including our great swimmers, medal records, curiosities and controversies. Sadly, this week the pair released their final episode, but I was thrilled to hear that the episode I did on the History of the Australian Swimming Championships in April 2023 was the third-most downloaded of the show’s 109 episodes.
Sadly, Australian Swimming doesn’t embrace the rich history of our no.1 Olympic sport in the same way as their counterparts in athletics (compare the ‘History’ pages of their official websites, for example) so it was very pleasing to hear that swimming fans rate this aspect of the sport much more highly.
Sorry to see Robby and Shannon finish up. If you see either of these two jokers on pool deck tell them they will be missed!
