Nine was the official broadcaster of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and David continued his role of providing research support for their swimming coverage from Paris La Defense Arena led by chief caller Mat Thompson, expert commentators Giaan Rooney and Ian Thorpe, and reporters Roz Kelly and Ellie Cole. David provided a comprehensive event-by-event preview, biographies of every Australian and leading international competitors, as well as daily commentator notes for each heat and finals session.

During second week of the Games David was based in their Trocadero studio assisting hosts Dylan Alcott and Leila McKinnon.

Nine’s commentary and production team was based in their Sydney studios for the Paralympics where David worked alongside Brenton Speed and Cate Campbell who called live every heats and finals session for the 141 swimming gold medals on offer.

Nine and 9Now provided a live broadcast of every heats and finals session of the Olympic and Paralympic selection trials for the the Paris 2024 Australian swim from the Brisbane Aquatic Centre. Nine was the official broadcaster of the 2023 World Aquatics Championships and provided Australian commentary for the swimming events from their Sydney studios led by lead caller Mat Thompson, expert commentators Giaan Rooney and Ian Thorpe, and hosts Nick McArdle and Annabelle Williams. Support included a comprehensive event-by-event preview, biographies of every Australian and leading international competitors, as well as daily commentator notes for each heat and finals session.

Nine was the official broadcaster of the world short course swimming championships in December 2022 and David was contracted by the network to provide research for the commentary team led by Mat Thompson, Giaan Rooney and Ian Thorpe. Support included a comprehensive event-by-event preview, biographies of every Australian and leading international competitors, a Daily Review and Daily Preview during the event as well as daily commentator notes for each heat and finals session.

David was contracted to both the Seven Network and Commonwealth Games Australia for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.  Prior to the games, David and his team wrote athlete biographies for every member of the 430-strong team for the Australian Team Handbook published by Commonwealth Games Australia and also produced a series of documents including a comprehensive Games preview, daily highlights, Parade of Nations and who to watch for Seven’s production and commentary team. Seven and 7mate screened live coverage across 10 days of competition and during the Games, he led a team of eight researchers at their Sydney broadcast hub, assisted 7mate late-night host Trent Copeland and co-wrote the Daily Preview focusing on each day’s highlights.

Sydney hosted the fourth edition of the Invictus Games in October 2018, an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and ill veteran and active defence personnel. Host broadcaster ABC provided extensive multi-platform live coverage. Seven and 7mate screened live coverage across two weeks of competition, with additional coverage via an OlympicsOn7 app. Prior to the games, David Clark provided a complete overview of all events and athletes with previous records and expected highlights, who to watch and anecdotal comments and quirks to the Seven commentary team. In addition he was on hand during the games to update and quickly assist commentators as events unfolded.

Australia sent its biggest team for an overseas Games (486 athletes) for the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in July-August 2021 which were broadcast across 45 dedicated Olympic channels across Seven and 7plus. Broadcast figures were up 71% on Rio 2016, while 4.74 billion minutes were streamed on 7plus through its digital channels.

The coverage anchors included Hamish McLachlan, Johanna Griggs and Matt Shirvington from their Melbourne studios, with a team of callers led by Bruce McAvaney (athletics), Basil Zempilas (swimming) and Scott McGrory (cycling). Leading the reporting contingent on the ground in Tokyo were Mel McLaughlin, Mark Beretta, Jason Richardson and Nathan Templeton.

Ahead of the Games, David created a suite of research documents for hosts, commentators, reporters and producers including biographies of key athletes, a comprehensive Games Preview featuring information about each sport, storylines to follow and possible milestones, as well as detailed guides and athlete profiles for the swimming and track cycling commentators.

Seven was Australia’s exclusive broadcaster for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, with live coverage on 7, 7TWO and 7mate as well as the 7CommGames app.

Prior to the Games, David compiled a suite of research documents including detailed Games Preview, guide to every sport and athlete profiles as well as information about competing nations. During the Games, he led a team of researchers providing support to hosts live on air and published a Daily Preview distributed to over 300 production crew to help focus on athletes and story lines to follow ahead of each day of the Games.
